Respectfully paying tribute to one of World Wrestling Entertainment’s greatest creations, NCW proudly continues its own tradition on August 14th when we present the 2010 Big City Rumble Match from the West Warwick Elks Lodge. The first Big City Rumble took place back in 1998, when “Big Poppa Drunk” Sean O’Callahan outlasted the entire roster to win the prestigious first event in Pawtucket, RI. Since then there have been six other Rumbles, with the winner being granted a Heavyweight Championship Match, a stipulation that was amended in 2001 when “Hollywood” Johnny Nash won that iteration.
This year’s Rumble features perhaps the best field of contenders yet, as everyone looks to get the opportunity of main eventing the final event of the 2010 Season, WrestleFest VI, with the Heavyweight Championship on the line. This Season has been defined by the giant bulls-eye on the back of the reigning NCW Champion David Marxxx-Loomis, with a variety of challengers gunning for the cocky two time Champ and his belt. Whoever steps up to take this years crown will be sure to give Loomis the fight of his life come WrestleFest, but first they must survive the Rumble.
Over the next few weeks more entrants will be added to the 2010 list, so be sure to keep checking back for more updates as we get closer to August 14th!
2010 Big City Rumble entrants:
Dean “The Beast” Livsley, NCW New England Champion “The Showoff” Mike Paiva, “Dynamite” Doug Summers, 2009 Winner Richard Pacifico, “The Portuguese Sensation” Ruy Batello, Scotty “By GOD” Vegas, NCW Tag Team Champion “The Average Guy” Timothy Pittman, 2000 Winner “The Antisocial Anarchist” Tim Kilgore, 2005 Winner “Revolution” Chris Venom, Cam Denile, Dale Denile, Ryan Denile, Jack Krueger, Triplelicious, JT Dunn, Vinny Abruzzi, Steve “The Turtle” Weiner, “The Unmasked Monster” Mike Volpe
Having just celebrated his one year anniversary as New England Champion, “The Showoff” Mike Paiva has proven to be the real deal. The former NCW President and Tag Team Champion, Paiva has solidified his status as one of the greatest New England Champions ever by utilizing his cagy skills and underhanded tactics to retain the Championship at every turn.
One challenger that has foiled him over the last few months has been Triplelicious, the gangstar from Crooklyn, RI and four time former Heavyweight Champion. A former New England Champion in his own right, Trip was eliminated from the REUNION Tournament of Champions by Paiva, when “The Showoff” used the ropes for leverage. Since then Trip has tried to make Paiva’s life a living hell, with him finally getting a one on one match at the Big City Rumble for the Championship.
It was in the same building four months ago that Scotty “By GOD” Vegas fired the first shot in the war against former Heavyweight Champion Doug Summers, with Vegas using “Dynamite” as a stepping stone in making a name for himself. Since REUNION, Vegas picked up a huge victory over Summers at NCW Payback, shocking the Dedham fans. At The Big City Rumble Doug gets another opportunity at revenge when he challenges Vegas to a rematch, hoping to teach the upstart a lesson he’ll never forget.
NCW Aftermath saw JT Dunn & Vinny Abruzzi, The New Era, finally earn NCW contracts when they were able to defeat The Schillar Park Posse in what had to have been considered an upset. With dissention in their own ranks, The Posse took their frustration out on Heaven’s Fury the following week, with the Deniles and Jack Krueger brutalizing The BerZerker’s knee, and unmasking “The Monster” Cenobite.
Since then The New Era has inadvertently been entangled in the bitter war between Heaven’s Fury and The Schillar Park Posse, leading to this Six Man Tag Match at The Rumble. In The New Era’s corner however will be the two time former NCW Heavyweight Champion “Revolution” Chris Venom.
The downfall of “The Antisocial Anarchist” began in earnest back in April, when Kilgore was knocked out by a vicious right hand from the NCW Heavyweight Champion David Marxxx-Loomis. With no one coming out to help, Kilgore felt betrayed and felt as if no one really cared about what happens to him. At the 13 Year REUNION, Kilgore let everyone know that he was no longer going to conform to everyone’s standards, and would no longer play nice. He then challenged his so-called friend Dean “The Beast” Livsley, and when he was unable to beat him fair, got himself disqualified against “The Beast”.
After walking out against Livsley during their Six Man Tag Match at Aftermath, Officials placed Kilgore and Dean into a No Countout, No DQ Match at Payback to ensure a definitive conclusion. Unfortunately the only conclusion in that match was pain for the former NCW Champion, when Kilgore kicked Livsley straight into the nether regions to steal a tainted (!) victory. “The Antisocial Anarchist” then staged an in ring protest with Livsley won the Luck of the Draw Lottery at Summer MELTDOWN, feeling he was more deserving of a NCW Title Match. Kilgore then butted into the Title Match itself, forcing Livsley AND Loomis to take Kilgore out of the equation before they collided.
At The Big City Rumble Kilgore and Livsley look to finish things once and for all when NCW Officials set up a Stretcher Match in West Warwick, with the guarantee that one man won’t walk out of the Elks Lodge that night, they’ll be wheeled out.
Summer MELTDOWN was a night of sorrow for the two time NCW Tag Team Champions, as Jon Thornhill found himself unable to compete when an unknown individual shoved him down a flight of stairs earlier that day in Foxboro. Injuring an already sore knee, Gen SLAM’s opponents for the night William King & Perry Von Vicious did not lay claim to the attack, stating it was someone else that had done the deed.
With that in mind “The Average Guy” and “The Dynamic One” look forward to the Big City Rumble, where the duo plan to confront Thornhill’s attacker, knowing that the entire NCW roster will be on hand for the Rumble Match. Hopefully when it’s all said and done, Gen SLAM will finally have some answers.
